Just looked at the ATCSCC OIS and saw that HPN has a ground stop (Advisory 013) due to a gear up landing on runway 16. I'm planning on flying at 2:30pm this afternoon, so I'll try to post the full scoop when I get back.

Sigh.

it happens from time to time. to early to sigh jason. they are not always unintentional.

hell if they cant get it sraped up by this afternoon then it was way more serious than gear up.

[FONT=ARIAL, Helvetica, Geneva][FONT=ARIAL, Helvetica, Geneva][FONT=ARIAL,]Turns out there was no gear up landing, just a Piaggio Avanti that reported "landing gear troubles" however the FAA listed "gear up landing" as the reason for the ground stop on the OIS, which I've never seen before unless there is an actual gear up landing.

You were right, Tony! But rather have that than the other way around.

Amen to that! The LSA that pranged at AirVenture, breaking the landing gear off, took about 45 minutes prang to opening the runway again.

Spoke too soon. The Avanti did land gear up on runway 16. Attached is a picture and a clip of Nancy, the local controller, who handled the emergency (courtesy of John [ae5x] at LiveATC.net)

However, I wasn't able to get airborne anyway...the local controllers this afternoon decided not to pay attention to anyone smaller than a Caravan. Logged .6 on the ground in a G1000 C172. Ca-Ching.

Boy, everyone did a great job of keeping it cool.

I went out to HPN Westair about 9:00 am to get my WINGS card signed by the examiner who had gone up with me a couple of months ago. He had an appointment with someone else for a checkride and I had business with the FBO trying to get the approvals for an ID badge that would allow me to approach my airplane without an escort.

Examiner and examinee were wasting time waiting for the airport to be opened back up following the gear up landing. The examinee stated that he had been pre-flighting his airplane when he noticed all the emergency vehicles were congregating up at the approach end of 16. He thought they were conducting a training exercise until an aircraft came in and they started chasing him down the runway with sirens screaming.

Apparently there were no injuries. No news media, so there was no one around to declare it a "miracle". About a half dozen air crew were milling about waiting for the airport to open. Don't know how long it took.
