Garmin has released new unit software for all the X96 and X95 color portables this month. The latest, for the 296, 396, 495, and 496 was released this week to fix a bug that the last one (just released as well) created.
If you have XM, you get more data. If you had a problem with your 396 forgetting where it was after being shut down, that seems to have been repaired. If it didn't autofill when you entered a direct-to waypoint, that's fixed.

Then click on your product. Then on the right under quick links, click "Software."
