Garmin Pilot 50% off for active CFI's

My foreflight expires in a few days, I will give garmin a try.

Bummer timing - I just bought a year of FF. But I'll give it a shot next year.

Clearly, their marketing department is on their game, taking advantage of FF's marketing error.

For a $100 discount, the CFI is supposed to:

1. Promote Garmin Pilot to your students to plan, file, fly, and log their flights.
2. Be an active Garmin user and promote Garmin Pilot and Garmin within your aviation community by using #GarminAviation
3. Interact with @garminaviation on social media

#1 would be difficult because Foreflight is a highly marketed product and provides student discount in college aviation programs.
#2. The primary training aircraft I use are Avidyne RNAV and L3 9000 transponders.
#3. I don’t think I would ever interact on Garmin Aviation.

I am kinda shocked they didn’t add Cirrus’s CSIP requirement you never talk bad about Cirrus.

#1 involves downloading the free 30-day trial, maybe. "Promote" doesn't equal "be sure your students adopt Garmin products".
#2 - active Garmin user could be "use Garmin Pilot for a few flights per year.
#3 I doubt they will care much about. They know many CFIs are not active on social media, and they aren't going to waste their time checking on that.

FYI, GP has recently added user-reviews for facilities, which is something I know a lot of FF users appreciate. It will take time to build a review database, but at least Garmin listened to users on that issue.

Hard to recommend to students if the only adbs-b device compatibility is the GDL 50 @ $800. Bet they would get more subscribers if they opened that up.

That's good to know. I believe that is if installed and running on iOS. Android still is not supporting other receivers yet it seems. I hope that changes soon!
On my android install, couldn't connect to a stratus 3 in the flight school plane, nor a stratus 2S in my client's plane. It was my day using and trying it out so hopefully I figure it out.

If you use the logbook feature on FF, be sure to go online and download it. If you don't, when you don't renew, you'll lose all logs. Same goes for Garmin.

Note that if you have an iOS device, you can use it as one of the three subscription devices with GP. You can mix and match the Android and iOS versions with a subscription.

Fortunately I use Myflightbook to log my flights, and have an iPad. Yesterday was the last day of foreflight subscription so I'm in the middle setting it up with Garmin. Wish I could just export my aircraft profiles over!

You can email yourself a CVS and/or PDF copy of your logbook straight from the ForeFlight app on your iPhone or iPad. I do it weekly just in case anything ever happens to the copy in the app. In the app: Logbook--settings--scroll to bottom--select export to email--select export options--select export now. It will then email it and set up an automatic email in another 30 days. Although you don't need to wait 30 days. Heck, you could do it again immediately. But the automatically generated email will then be set up for 30 days from the day you manually did it. From the email, I save both copies (PDF and CSV) in my Dropbox account, which is linked to my ForeFlight documents tab. I now have a copy in ForeFlight logbook, ForeFlight documents, and Dropbox. Being that I stopped keeping a paper logbook in 2020, I like knowing I won't lose my data.

I have mine in Foreflight, Excel, and paper, but the paper logbook is about a year behind! I'm old school... I like the paper ones!
