Anyone have any nuggets on what they will be announcing? Supposedly more info has been posted on other forums but they require membership.

Rumer is a transponder with ADS-B in and out. What have you heard/read?:dunno:

Maybe they are seeing what is coming out from Appareo, maybe that is what is driving a new product.

I just hope Appareo does not sell out to them.

Here's the rumor:

This information was posted in an Avionics Section of another forum. I have no idea if it is accurate, close or just thrown out there to get us all excited. YMMV

The new GTX335 and GTX345 is a GTX330 with a GLD88 and 210 built in all for about $2500. Sounds unbelievable for Garmin but that is what I hear from a very good source.

And Garmin's response:

Morning everyone,
I wanted to try and slow this down as there has been a lot of speculation at this point. Most of this data in the above statement is incorrect and I'll be happy to speak to it once the announcement is made, but I also have an agreement with the moderators of Beechtalk where I can't make any announcements of new products and such so as you can imagine it's a pretty sticky issue which is why I really don't like rumors at this point  as when incorrect they only lead to disappointment for some and more questions for me and my team to work with.
I've received a number of PM's on this to my work e-mail and wanted to try and address the masses, again be patient and I'll be happy to address any concerns and questions on this once the official announcement is made early next week.

Thanks,

Whoa!

If this is true - game changer. New transponder, ads-b in and out with a Bluetooth interface for $2500? Appareo wants $3,500 and you don't get ads-b in and this requires a stratus at $899.

I hope this is true...will know in a couple days.

Hopefully this is the beginning of cheaper ads-b solutions. Current solutions are just too expensive.

10% price increase to keep even more people from buying aviation electronics.:nonod:

Like I said, procrastination is a good thing in aviation. Wait until 2019, this will be a non-issue.

Yeah, knowing Garmin if the box will be $2500 the yearly updates to make it work will be $800 or more. And you will have to buy two seperate boxes to update the identical looking sim cards.

What I heard from a very knowledgable source is an ADS-B transponder with both out and in (via wifi) at or below the $3k price point. And Garmin, not some manufacturer of whom I have never heard. If what I heard is correct the Lucky Strike will sport one of them in the very near future.

Whether you, I or the Garmin guy like rumors or not, in the absence of actual information, you are going to get rumors. It has always been that way and it always will be.

Maybe not that late. But definitely AirVenture 2017.

As fast as the tech world moves, there will definitely be new products that put the early items to shame.

But for the certified aircraft, I wouldn't want to wait to 2019 and then not get a slot at the avionics shop to install whatever solution was ultimately selected.

I was at the avionics shop on Friday getting the airplanes IFR check done and heard the same thing. Garmin is announcing a new ADSB solution this week that is an all in one box and the price is about half of their current offering. I asked if it was the same size as the GTX-327 and their reply was no, it's smaller which means a new tray will be needed. :(

Cheers,
Brian

Happy to pass on some more rumors... :goofy:

In the twilight zone world maybe they are announcing a price cut...

I will bet that the price is not correct. The box probably is correct. My guess on prices is what the GDL-88 and GTX330 sell for. 3995? I think that's right...

I just learned about this product when I finally opened GP after the 5.1 update got to me... I like. I may have to rethink my preliminary compliance plan. It seems to me like the gdl-88 may have lost most of its market to this.

Assuming you don't need 1090 out and your current transponder is ok, you can get the 88 installed for price of these new boxes.

The other HUGE benefit of this new GTX 345 (besides obviating any need for the GDL-88) is that legacy G1000 aircraft (like those from Cessna, Piper and Diamond) now have a path to ADS-B compliance... AND the traffic/weather will appear on their G1000 screens. Prior to this, it was a "talk to the airframe manufacturer" problem.

See the Compatibility tab.

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/in-the-air/general-aviation/transponders/gtx-345/prod140949.html

The FlightStream 210 may not be needed now... if all you want to do is SEE traffic and weather on your tablet. If you want two-way flight plan communication between your panel GPS unit, or if you want the backup AHRS without need for a Stratus, then the FS210 is still the way to go.

I like that the GTX 345 also can be wired to the audio panel for audible alerts, and includes their TargetTrend and TerminalTrend technologies.

Oh, and for those that need a new altitude encoder installed (like I would), they thought of that too:

^^ This mounts to the back of the GTX 345 mounting tray

All in all, a fantastic announcement.

It still is - But Diamond, for one, has already approved the GTX345R. I think Garmin has known this was coming for a while, told the airframe manufacturers not to do anything, and then blamed it on them to hide the fact that they were coming out with a new box!

Time for a trip to the avionics shop for 9DS! :D

I've got Birdie scheduled for the Tuesday after Labor Day: GTX345 and FS210. All-in (hardware, labor, taxes) just under $10K. That cost will be reduced somewhat by re-selling my King KT76C, if I can find a buyer this close to 2020.

By the way, I think GARMIN must be an acronym for

GIVE ALL REMAINING MONEY IMMEDIATELY, NEANDERTHAL!

King must be Keep til It's No Good... I'll schedule the removal of my factory-installed King stack sometime in mid December 2019.

Once it's done, I want a close look and usage report.... We're considering similar for our Skylane.

And did anyone ever step up to the partnership window?
