============================================

Garmin is planning to announce the new GPSMAP 496 at OshKosh

Here's what I've learned:

* The new 496 is built on the same frame as the present and popular
GPSMAP 396

* Processing speed is slightly increased (so they think)

* Comes with the Automotive City Select built-in, fully unlocked

* AOPA Directory

* Airport Ground & Taxiway layout for 600 Airports

* Price is $2,795.00

Obviouisly, you're not seeing all the positives Scott! You will be able to see where all the Walmarts are as you fly an area. <g>

I would consider paying that if they had enroute and terminal charts--huh! Our day WILL come!!

Best,

Dave

I like that taxiway feature, but not enough to swap it out with my 396. I'm surprised they don't just add this in through a software upgrade.

AOPA directory... Including rental car/$100 burger/etc. info? Cool!
* Price is $2,795.00
Ouch.

I'll still have to play with it at OSH, but I may or may not buy one. There's something more important that I'll be blowing my entire flying budget on. :yes:

Kent,

Like paying for the rental in order to fly there? Hmm, I had asked Garmin about including the taxi diagram for the 396........

Naah... Club, remember? Besides, if I was short on money to fly to OSH, I'd go direct (about 65nm) instead of via CAD (oh, about 300nm or so...)

I'll give you a hint, since you were on the Pilotcast the other night: It's gonna be at CAD, and it's not gonna be the seaplanes that cost the big $$$.

Outrageous price. I just got an email from a friendly chap in Romania willing to sell me a new one still in the carton for only $500.

...Just kidding! But I wonder how long it will take until the emails do go out?
