Leslie pointed me to this story today from our local area ....

Chicago tribune, lead story about Christopher Vaughn, arrested for the
deaths of his wife and children somewhere around Channahon:

*****************************

Christopher Vaughn-the Oswego man charged with the fatal roadside
shootings of his wife and three children in rural Will County-prepared
Monday to battle his forced return from Missouri to face trial in
Illinois. Meanwhile, officials in both states took extraordinary steps
to quicken what is usually a routine but time-consuming process.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed a warrant seeking the extradition of Vaughn,
32, about 2 p.m. Monday, Will County State's Atty. James Glasgow said.
Illinois State Police then flew the document to Jefferson City, Mo., for
the approval of Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, who signed the papers at 5:20
p.m.

The St. Charles County sheriff's office received the papers Monday
night.

Glasgow said extradition requests typically are sent by mail or, in more
significant cases, by overnight express. And it usually takes governors
days, if not weeks, to sign off on them before they are sent, he added.

Talk about wanting somebody back fast! A legal process that normally
takes a few days was reduced to about 3 hours.....

Of course, Vaughn has appealed and a judge has granted him until July 25th to review the extradition order, so all the fast flying was for naught...

You didn't mention the recent stories that Blago spends $6500 a day to commute from his home in Chicago to Springfield in the state plane so he can be at his desk for a whole 3 hours.

He also went as far as possible up Daley's backside when he destroyed Meigs so he has to fly from Midway. He deserves whatever grief he gets over that boondoggle.

The amount of $$$ surprises me, that he commutes does not and is not news. Blago has been doing that since day one in office. Previous Govs. had been spending much of their time at the state center in downtown Chicago instead of Springfield. Blago went so far as to say he would spend even more time as he did not want to take his daughter out of school and relocate her downstate.

Really at this point the only reason we still have a capital in the downstate area is because the rest of Illinois refuses to recognize that it is rally Chicago that drives the state economy.
