GA helps Nebraska

That makes me want to fly south and lend a hand. Similar things have happened with other natural disasters. Some of us may be jerks, but when there’s a chance to use our planes to help people in need, the term “general aviation community” really seems apropos. I saw a news article saying that the VP is planning a visit. Here’s hoping that it doesn’t lead to TFRs that interfere with these grassroots efforts. “Midwest GA pilots volunteering to haul supplies in and people out of flood-stricken community” is probably the group posing the lowest possible risk of trying to hurt the Vice President of the United States, just below “newborn kittens.”

I see that there are two TFR rings scheduled, both small and not covering any airports other than KOMA. I don't know where everyone down there is flying in and out of for this airlift but it seems the Secret Service isn't going to interfere too much.

Hey, that looks familiar. :) I was quite literally parked next to that guy as they were unloading the supplies. I had a guy with me who needed to get to Omaha. We were waiting for the runway at Millard to open up again after someone overran the end of it (we heard). In pic #3 you can see the Screamin’ Canary with the canopy up and me in the left seat.

I flew 5 or 6 round trips with passengers, starting right around sunup and ending after 5. I’d never seen so much traffic at Fremont. The ramp was crowded with erything from a couple of 150s to a King Air and a Pilatus or two. Despite heavy traffic at two non towered fields, everyone flew professionally and I didn’t see or hear any conflicts.

Highlights of my day: a bunch of relieved and happy passengers. Just being able to lend a hand. And the mighty C-150 announcing “Caution, wake turbulence” as he began his takeoff roll. :) Go get ‘em, Tommy!
