I've noticed as I fly with FSX that the GPS fixes and some ILS frequencies no longer match current charts. A Google search shows that updating these is tough, though some have been able to add fixes.

How about X-Plane? Do they keep the database reasonably up to date? X-Plane 10 is due for release next month, I might make the switch....

I also heard rumors that the MSFS franchise is starting up again?

I'm glad you brought this up. I just bought MSFS X (probably the last copy at BestBuy) yesterday. I got tired of waiting for X-Plane 10. Just got it installed last night, so haven't had much time to tweak it yet.

I was able to update the nav database on MSFS2004, but it was a pain. Hopefully there is a less painful way to do it in MSFS X.

I bought a DVD of approach plates that roughly match what FS X has. It has "virtually all" U.S. approaches, and a selection of foreign approaches from 100 countries. It doesn't have enroute charts, but I figure it will at least solve the approach problem as long as I am just looking to maintain proficiency and am not concerned with gaining familiarity with a particular ILS or navaid that has been commissioned since then.

Austin Meyers demos the new night lighting effects in X10:

I need to find out what video card(s) he's using to get rendering that smooth.

I have a number of the Saitek Pro Flight products (Yoke and Rudder, along with the Multi, Radio and Switch panels), and while I haven't tested them thoroughly, I'm happy to report that these all seem to work fine in X-Plane 10 when using the available Saitek plugin.
