Went up to just tool around in the sky a bit. Plane flies so well in the dense cold air, and there was no other traffic in the area but my toes were freezing.

Want real cold go further north, want warmth go further south. Willing to sacrifice some performance for warm temps.

I dont know how much warmer you think it is down south.

Currently 1 hr north of corpus christi and we're sitting at 31*

Never really thought about texas getting that cold, figured that would be a great escape from Michigan in the winter but not if its only 30 degrees warmer. Change of plans for me I guess.

But on the positive side, performance increase in the winter is kind of fun compared to mid summer (that means 80 deg F round these parts ).
In the winter you just have to wear long underwear and winter boots while flying and wait 1/2 hour for the gauges to warm up so you can trust them.

Couple days ago was 84* here in Miami. One degree off the record. Is that warm enough for ya? :wink2:

Couple days ago Denver was colder than Anchorage. And colder than Vail, just 100 miles west!!!

Next weekend? The 60s.

I see you got your cold start issue worked out. :goofy:

I'm in Bradenton ,the cold front is stalled over us.got into the high 50s.water temp 62 .

I would not mind a bit of cold air. It has been like summer in Miami, here. Hot and humid.

I had a Citabria long ago that was pretty drafty. The heater duct entered the cabin right behind the pilot's left shoe. It would set the left shoe on fire and roast the left foot, but the rest of the pilot and passenger would still be stone cold. Not a good plane for the upper midwest in Jan.

I'd much rather the wx we're having than a long, hot sweaty summer. In the cold you can always put on a coat. Not so much for the hot.

Willie Nelson said it: "That S### ain't right".

Yesterday morning I woke up here in central Nebraska to -14 F. It was 30 degrees warmer in Barrow Alaska.

Just barely.
I hadn't put the engine heater on but thought I would give it a try.
Took some time and work but I got it fired up. Flew around for a bit landed, and fired it up again and it started right up.

I think the old battery was on its last legs. Cranking it to start cold, and it would drain, if I did get it started and shut it down, it would not fire up again. Wasn't holding a charge.

Still can't believe I spent $500 on a battery. That's insane.
