would you fly with any one who offers?

Not if I don't know their piloting skills.

So how do you figure out their piloting skills if you don't fly with them? I figure if someone has stayed alive long enough to take me flying, a single flight with them probably won't kill me.

I flew with ebykowsky. That says everything ;)

Hey! :nono:;) But my my reputation as a superior, experienced pilot precedes me, so no risk in getting into a craft with me in the left seat. :)

I just pay attention to their personality and my first impressions are pretty good. I had been out of flying for about 8 years when my daughter came home excited that her new boyfriend was a pilot and wanted to fly her to Muncie for dinner. She knew mom would automatically say no and assumed I would automatically say yes.

My comment was your not going with him till I fly with him!!!! So I did, he flew just fine and I let her go over her mothers objections.

To be honest I just wanted to go flying, the twerp never did offer me the yoke. For that I almost said no.

NO!! I definitely know pilots that I would not fly with. I don't have to fly with them once to determine that my risk avoidance setting is way higher than theirs.

I have in the past. Usually I go by first impression of the person.
So far there is not anyone I would not fly with again.

If I have access to the controls and my left elbow is working, I don't have a problem flying with anyone.

Yes, and I've done it many many many times in all sorts of aircraft from near ultralights to jets, including experimentals. Not once have I regretted the decision. Have I seen a few "bad habits" or instances of "questionable judgement?" sure, but nothing that I would consider dangerous.

I found this experience to be valuable, especially when I was in primary training.

Remember, you don't have to fly with an instructor to learn something.

I think that pretty much sums up how I feel. I don't want to get in the back seat if I don't know the pilot of a GA plane. I have flown with a couple friends that owned airplanes with professional pilots, so I don't count those. But, to just jump in with a random guy at the airport, I want some access to the controls.;)

I was asked that question by an Young Eagle candidate.

I told him that the pilots in that program are well qualified, and have a great safety record.

When I was much younger I went along on flights with pilots who, in retrospect, did some pretty crazy things. I don't know if times are different now or what, but I don't notice that there is as much of this out there any more. Either that or I'm not exposed to it. :dunno:

On occasion I've let total strangers who I never meet do the piloting. They are vetted by other total strangers who I've also never met. The one set of strangers confirms for me that the other set of strangers are safe to fly with.

But no free ride either - they all ask I pay up front. If I'm lucky they give me something to nibble on and a complimentary beverage. But only after they've checked me out prior to getting on their aircraft. See, I'm a total stranger to them....

As long as I have a front seat and do a preflight, sure, why not.

Yeah..... Henning did hop right into my deathtrap too and didn't blink an eye..

I will NOT get into a CAP plane for any price..:nonod::yikes:
