I figure, if we get all of these contracts killed, that are paid to General Dynamics to monitor the Citizens of the U.S. from having "dissenting" thoughts about our Government...

It'd probably pay for things like... you know... aviation chart distribution, and other important infrastructure stuff...

... but hey, why should they do anything that makes sense like that? It's more fun to build big Internet searching systems for trolls.

(Maybe this post will end up triggering a red flag on some bureaucrats desk at both General Dynamics and DHS. I could only hope to be so honored.)

We used to claim to dislike governments that oppressed their people via things like overt tapping of Citizen's communications.

Now we vote for people who continue to pay for searching for the dissenters in our Country who are exercising their 1st Amendment rights and doing it on the Internet.

The terrorists won. For sure. DHS is sucking the Country dry.

It's called Open Source Intelligence and it was the big thing for the past few years not just for DHS but also for overseas intelligence gathering. Lots of people are mining twitter and other feeds for geographic reference to try to detect a trend of what's going on. What I've not seen yet is any "open source counter intelligence" ( or is that counter open source intelligence) but presumably the good guys or bad guys (depending on your point of view) are working on that too.
