In an effort to minimize the negative impact of spammers who manage to break through our defenses, we have instituted a new policy regarding new user accounts.

New users (that is, fully registered users who have made less than 5 posts), will be forbidden from using the IMG tag, the URL tag, or from uploading attachments.

Once a new user has made a minimum of five posts, the system will automatically, within an hour. promote them to "validated user". A validated user will be able to use images, links, and attachments as per normal.

This restriction has been implemented to help avoid the situation that occurs when a spam bot manages to get through our defenses, and posts offensive links or images in our forum.

We are sorry that we have had to impose these restrictions on our newer users, however the admins feel this is a necessary step to combat the porn spam and other spambots that continue to attack the internet.

Thank you for your continued support of Pilots of America. We're working to keep the runway clear of F.O.D.!

Please stand by, I know, the posting permissions are temporarily frozen.

Ok, posting permissions should be back to normal now.

Sorry, I screwed up creating the validated user group and the permissions defaulted to "Can't do jack ****"

Ignore all my PMs and other messages you may get via the red board. IT was the only way I could get through to let you know of the problem.

I'm sure I have a ton. :D

Sorry - I thought I clicked the right button when I tried to copy the Registered Users group, but instead I started from a blank slate.

BTW I was not done yet reading all the stuff in the MC group you let me into for a few minutes by mistake. Can you let me finish then restrict my access ;) ;) :) :)

well that was interesting. currently i still get blocked out of viewing the home page. and the test pilots forum is shown, but i am not a test pilot. everything else looks like its back to normal.

Um, something is messed up with my signature... it's not showing the picture anymore and instead is showing the img url as the link... when I tried to correct it, it told me the BB Code 'url' is not allowed. I have well over the 5-post minimum...

Sigs restored for validated users. Test pilot's lounge re-secured.
*sigh* vBulletin is such a pain sometimes.

Odd.

WYSIWYG lets you link images anyway... :(

Well that's annoying. I hope we don't have to, but if we do, we'll disable the WYSIWYG editor...

Frequently. Nobody else understand what the *@()#$ I'm talking about. :p

Chuck, seems like POA has been doing a great job of spam prevention. How about the human autosurfers who will read your above message and just post 5 throw-away posts before putting their garbage link online? You'll still have to toast them manually, won't you? Or is the theory that they're too busy spamming a thousand other forums to come back to this one?

We toast a bunch manually each day.

It's possible that they'll read and then post away, but the liklihood of them doing that is low. We know this won't stop all of them, but it is one more hurdle that they have to cross.
