I'm now providing feeds to LiveATC.net for Meacham, Alliance, and NW Regional.

The Meacham feed can be found here: http://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=kftw

Alliance and 52F are both on the Alliance feed, since that traffic so frequently interacts; that feed can be found here: http://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=kafw

I'll probably end up buying a third scanner and split 52F off into its own feed.

I have a Diamond D130J discone VHF antenna on an outside mast, properly grounded (an in-line lightning arrestor and ground shield straps in place, heavy duty copper wire to a big @$$ ground rod), feeding through the attic to my office LAN closet. There, the feed passes through a VHF Air bandpass filter, then enters a distribution amplifier before splitting off to two different Uniden Bearcat BC355C scanners (one for each feed). Those feed a Delta 1010LT PCI audio input card (provides multiple distinct routeable audio inputs into the computer), and then the LiveATC client software.

Enjoy!

You are personally paying? Thank you (on behalf of those students out there). I know I listened to mine during training.

Yes, I purchase the equipment, set it up / install it, pay the internet/electricity... LiveATC provides the streaming software and website. You listen for free. Enjoy! :)

I'd say that's great so I can now listen to Pacific Prowler (B-25) flying around, but she was just grounded for a serious (read that very expensive) corrosion problem :(

Nicely done. Looks better than my setup for KAPA-TWR/GND. I think I'll do some upgrades on mine, add more frequencies, and see what I can do about switching to little 12 VDC powered computers, so I can put one of those giant UPS batteries to work to keep it operating when power outages happen. Had a power outage at the house here today, the KAPA TWR feed was down when I got home. Fixed it. No UPS on it. UPS is in the basement on the other radio gear. :)

For Kim: Most of the LiveATC feeds are provided at private owner's cost, other than some of the larger commercial airports where a volunteer needed assistance with the gear, or their gear wasn't producing high enough quality audio. Dave has funded some of those from proceeds the site gets from advertising or his own pocket.

I think we need to say a small prayer for Troy though -- he used Windows for his feed machine instead of Linux. :) :) :)

Troy:

Do you have a resource for reasonable (ummm.... Cheap!) scanners?

Spike, click the link in my original post for the BC355C; it's an affordable scanner for aviation listening. Won't pick up military channels (UHF). Will pick up police/fire, but doesn't support trunk following. For my intended purpose, works great. Also has a mobile kit and 12V auto plug included in the box, if you want to take it on the road.

You funny guy!

That's only because I already had this server running for my 'work lab' in the closet. Considered running a Linux VM, but couldn't map the audio inputs from this Delta 1010LT card to the VM. Will probably build out a Linux box specifically for this when I can, because the Linux drivers will support discreet inputs (1-10) on the Delta card; Windows pairs them up as L/R channels (1/2, 3/4, 5/6, etc.) so I only have half as many inputs to support discreet mono feeds as I'd like.

Might feed a really high audio level into one side of a pair and make sure there's enough isolation between them before going through the hassle. That card looks high-quality enough that it probably has it.

Dave uses them all as discreet inputs on his Linux servers... it's the Windows drivers that don't seem to support it.

is there anything going on right now? I clicked on the java link and I don't hear anyone... tried flash too same thing. Maybe it's just quiet at noon time

Check flight aware to see when FedEx is active (KAFW is their air hub for the region).

Other than that, it's whenever the students come buy for TnGs and weekends when the Military stops in.

For a larger class "D", it can be a bit sleepy.

Is it possible to listen to live ATC on an iPad?

Exactly! And the military are on the UHF tower frequency, which my scanner doesn't receive, so you'll only hear the tower's half of those circuits.
