..for the next update.
Presumably that means it wont completely fail on my iphone (7.2, up to date) but some features wont work? Which?
Havent checked my ipad yet.

The next ForeFlight release will require Apple iOS 9.2 or later. By making iOS 9.2 the minimum iOS version supported, we can deliver advanced features, smaller app download sizes, faster performance, and improved energy efficiency. In addition, you don’t have to worry about losing support for your older devices - all the devices that support iOS 8.2 (the current minimum iOS requirement for ForeFlight) are all capable of updating to iOS 9.2.

Sounds to me like if you don't have iOS 9.2 you will be stuck with the current version of foreflight. I'm not sure what additional features the next foreflight version will have.

The minimum must be 7.2 or even lower as that is what my iphone has, and it is still apparently working

That sucks.

With a jail broken 9.1, I'm not likley going to loose my jailbreak just for 9.2, plus I don't know if I would see a performance gain or loss with the upgrade.

I don't know what 9.2 is or does, but I can almost guarantee that the upgrades will eventually force you to buy new iPad.

That's what happened with my Gen 1 iPad. It slowed to a crawl until it could not support the latest iOS and stayed at that level. I attempted to use it last month as a backup web browser and that old iOS and Safari kept crashing.

I just updated my Air1 from 8.2 to 9.3.2 because of that foreflight announcement. All is well. They've even added some cool features that my droid phone has had for years.

@SCCutler It now has an upper case lower case keyboard. i.e. The characters on the keyboard change from lower to upper case when you hit the shift key and automatically after you type in a period. The keyboard formerly always displayed upper case characters. Not a major deal but nice. My droid phone has done this for years.

Ability to run multiple apps. Driving down the highway, I can now stream St. Louis classic rock running safari in the background with google maps running in the foreground. I couldn't get it to do that running 8.2. As soon as I minimized safari, the music stopped. Again, I have been able to do this on my droid phone for ages.

Apple makes it near impossible for developers to continue to target the ancient OSs.

The keyboard case behavior is programmable.

I was about to offer in my first post, "well we know it won't brick the device" but the upgrading process makes tantamount to doing so.
"Revenue stream; must guarantee" ('disguise it as "you gotta keep up"')

That looks like a good improvement, but I still am not willing to take the performance hit and loose my jailbreak on 9.2. What is so special on 9.2 that they could release this for the older versions as well?

While I am happy to see this improvement... I gotta wonder, "Did FF swallow GP?" cuz much of this looks an awful lot like what GP has had for a while.

Okay, bar raised... now I wonder what Hilton's going to announce...

9.3.x really sucks on my ipad air. Nothing is as fluid as it was before I updated. Many swipes have to be done with far more precision than before also.

I think I was still running 8.2 (or somesuch) before being forced to update for foreflight. not a fan of the new iOS.

9.3.3 is meant to help with performance
