New update, just downloaded it. Two finger ruler to measure distance between two points directly on the map (shows time/fuel used/etc. if you have a default aircraft defined); integration with LogTenPro; sharing flight info via twitter and email (to SIC, passengers, sigOther, etc.). Cool stuff.

Loving the ruler, was my biggest gripe.

Fuel used seems off though...

Holy moly. Logten integration?! Plus all the rest? (Slobber...) ;)

Perhaps but I'm seeing the error message "Map Expired, see Downloads". The downloads are current but I can't get rid of the error message on the VFR map.

Delete your downloads and then go get everything again.
There was a message a couple of days ago about the 17 Nov downloads and an update version.

Like the ruler feature. Also like the fact the dev team is in constant motion adding new goodies.

+1

However, I have concerns that the more bells and whistles they add the less stable the program will be and I certainly don't want to experience a crash in the middle of an approach.

The primary reason I have foreflight is to replace paper. If it doesn't continue to do that reliably then all the bells and whistles won't matter.

I'm not a programmer so I don't know if there's a reason for concern. What I do know is that foreflight seems to have a lot more bugs in the last few months that required follow-up fixes and that concerns me.

What I've noticed recently is the app crashes a LOT more than it used to when I change layers.... pick VFR + Flight Rules and ... wait ... crash. Restart. Makes me nervous.

Love the ruler. Seems much faster as well. I always leave the TFR overlay on, and it was laggy until this update.

Also have experienced more "unplanned/unexplained" exits than I recall.

Wish the ruler showed magnetic bearing two / from the points on either end of the ruler.
This, plus I would like to see a way for the ruler to stay on the screen after you have lifted your fingers. Perhaps even be able to move and rotate it like you would a plotter in the real world.

Dave is spun up! Is good!
4.3 not available at noon shows up as a dl at 5pm! Got.

I don't see the sharing of flights by email, which button??

NO crashes here.

Took me a while to find it too.

On the Maps screen, you need to have the flight/nav log visable. Button for sharing should be in the lower right of the log panel.

I wish it would stay up a little longer after I move my phat phingers out of the way to read the information on the ruler.

How good is ForeFlight with the download speed. I have been using FltPlan which is totally free but I find it's download process to be painful. For example I can' select all the LO, sectionals, IFR regions to downlad overnight, instead I have to first select a region, wait for it to download, then sectionals, etc. In other words I have to do a lot of babysitting, monitoring plus the download speed is suspect, it takes like 30-45 min just to download approach plates for CA. So I am looking for your impressions on how ForeFlight handles this process.

Hit one button and walk away. No babysitting required. It is bandwidth intensive though. It takes 4 hours to download on a 4mb satellite connection.

That's if you choose to store all the charts, right?

I've dropped to just Colorado and surrounding states unless I'm planning a trip somewhere.

That's another question I had. Can you select a few states for download? Again, in FltPlan I can only download one state at a time.

Nate, I assume your question pertains to the time involved and not the "one touch" operation and, if so, yes, that's the time it takes to download everything EXCEPT the IFR high charts and Alaska and Hawaii.

Early in foreflight's life, the word was that that you had to download ALL the contiguous 48 for the program to operate properly. Don't know if that's still true or even if it was true then but I just got into the habit of doing so.

Yes, you can pick and choose which states and which charts; hit one button and everything you picked downloads. Again, with the above mentioned caveat, if it has merit.

I phrased it weird. Wasn't really meant as anything but a rhetorical question. ;)

I've never seen the need or requirement that all charts need to be downloaded for "proper" operation. Yes, if you put an airport ID in that's outside of where you've downloaded, it's going to whine at you by displaying a blank chart under that location, but you definitely don't need to download all.

I keep a different sub-set of charts in Foreflight on my iPad vs my iPhone also. Both work fine. ;)
