For Sale: One Spaceport, hardly used

Guess they didn't get enough airplanes flying in a couple weeks ago at $500 each.

New Mexico may put Spaceport America up for sale.

I guess nobody told them how to make a small fortune in aviation.

How about this scenario: the state spends $250 million on a Space port, leases it to Virgin Atlantic, no other activity for a couple years. State heroically puts it up for sale for get rid of money drain. Sealed bids are opened, high bidder is $8 million dollars. State sells it and blasts originator of idea. New buyer continues to collect lease from Virgin Atlantic and recoups entire investment in less than 3 years! :mad2:

Who is going to go to jail for this ?

Who is going to go to jail for this ?

The landowner got paid. The architects and civil engineers got paid. Everyone from the concrete supplier to the guy who wired the offices got paid. The politicians "created jobs" and got re-elected.

Ain't nobody going to jail. There are no harmed persons with enough butthurt to take the responsible parties to the mat.

This is how all of these big construction government boondoggles go. All the people who stood to make money on the deal did, and everyone else (i.e. the taxpayers) gets left holding the bag. And the individual taxpayers don't have the motivation or wherewithal to push the issue.

The damaged parties are the landowners in those three counties and the taxpayers of NM who had to pay for this.

I believe Richardson and Domenici were the culprits behind this particular boondoggle.

Space is hard, and anyone involved in it really needs to take the long view. few people can manage that.

Aren't Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Galactic two completely separate companies?

You guys don't talk it up too much. I am trying to low ball the bid so I can have my own private airport....
