Posting this as a friend of the Owner. I have seen this plane, flown this plane, and would not hesitate to jump in it and fly it IFR, Cross-country, or Back Country. Great electronics, great interior, and, if you know the history of 182's, the 1961 is considered the "the best of both worlds", as it was the first of the swept tails, retained the narrow body, making it faster than subsequent versions. It also has the manual flaps, which, if you fly a Skylane, you know how much fun those are for short field and backcountry operations.

I am sure delivery could be arranged if needed.

Price is $69k, and he is selling it due to buying a Twin. His contact information is down below. If you have questions, I could try to pass along to the Owner, or just contact him.

Good solid plane, in my opinion, and it flies really nice.

The green is a little loud but boy! I could get over that real quick. Nicely equipped bird!

Oh. My. Gosh.

I almost dropped my iPad when I saw those photos. The second airplane ride of my life was in THAT AIRPLANE, July 1963, Fullerton, CA:

I happened to see it at KVNY in 1994, and snapped this, for sentimental reasons:

I love my 172/180, and have had no thoughts about trading up, but ... wow.

What's it cost to convert a 182 to tailwheel these days?

For $69k, you get a Garmin D2 watch and a free airplane??? What a deal!!!! :D :D

So..... you can attest to how nice it flies and runs given that you were in it "recently"....

Those are great black and white photos. Those early '60s paint schemes were good looks, lots of angled lines. Now we have all the swoopy stuff from Cessna.

Looks like about the same wear on the paint on the rudder pedals.

As I recall it was all-over tan, with dark brown and white trim. Very pretty, I thought. Here's an advertising photo for the '61 Skylane:

Even if it were a straight tail?
There is no data for replacing the gear boxes, there is no one at FSDO, that will approve the alteration with out engineering, plus there is modifications to the flight characteristics of the aircraft, and a flight manual alterations to gain approval for. by the time you gain approval you'll be too old to fly it.

There is a very few very early 182s that were made from 180 fuselages, they have the gear boxes installed along with the rear gear boxes also. they can be converted.

Anyone know real world numbers on this old bird? That paint scheme is tame compared to mine ;-) Looks like someone really took care of his airplane. Lot's of nice upgrades...so tempting.

Let me know what you are looking for, and, how you determine it, and I will see if he has them, or, hell, use it for a reason to go fly it.

Do you have a methodology for determining take-off over a 50' obstacle? I assume you just keep shortening your takeoff run until you finally hit the obstacle, then add 5' back to the take off run???

Lots of dudes have converted old straight tail, stab trim 182s into 180s, enough that the skywagon club even ended up having to have the debate about letting them into the group.

news to me.. what paper work was used?

Here is how it is done..http://www.sillsaviation.com/id21.html Styles does it in shop, they make their own parts as owner produced parts.
If you want to go that route, you go right ahead, and have a nice day. Or break out the check book and have styles do it, But Like I said if you try you'll be too old to fly it when you get the paper right.
