I took the FOI and passed, but looking back the endorsing I have was not from a 2 year instructor. Are there going to be any real issues, or should I just hope nobody notices?

When did you take the test? The rules changed recently. Before last September you didn't need any endorsement. After that, the testing center screwed up if they let you take the test without one.

Hmm

Does the 2yr apply to FOI or just initial CFI practical?

Ether way OP should stop talking about it and move on

Test was taken after the change, there was some confusion from the endorsing instructor with the new 80% pass rate rule in 61.195 (H), saying if an instructor has a 80% pass rate they can provide flight instruction. I don't believe that that counts for written test endorsements, because that would fall under ground instruction.

I think the FOI does need a 2 year endorsement, but I doubt that anyone will look that deep into a knowledge test endorsement.

I thought that two year requirement was making a CFI, the FOI is required for a ground instructor and I don’t recall a ground. instructor requires a two year CFI

I was confused when I saw this thread at first, when I took the FOI I didn't need an endorsement. A quick Google search showed me this is a new requirement as of September 2024.

Minor F up. But you need a different one to train for the CFI as he cannot endose you.

The DPE will want to see the score test report. He's not going to give any thought whatsoever to who endorsed you to take it.

Is it GOING TO cause a problem. No.

Is it “right”? No.

If discovered, an issue?
1. Ya.
2. Issue that causes that probably trumps, so…. No.

Bravo on you for knowing. You can readjust karma by not putting someone else in that situation in the future.

§ 61.189 Flight instructor records.
(a) A flight instructor must sign the logbook of each person to whom that instructor has given flight training or ground training.

§ 61.35 Knowledge test: Prerequisites and passing grades.
(a) An applicant for a knowledge test must have:
(1) Received an endorsement, if required by this part, from an authorized instructor certifying that the applicant accomplished the appropriate ground-training or a home-study course required by this part for the certificate or rating sought and is prepared for the knowledge test;

§ 61.185 Aeronautical knowledge.
(a) A person who is applying for a flight instructor certificate must receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor on:

I know that my AGI knowledge test from 20-ish years ago was only good for a couple of years, but is my FOI from then still good if I didn't do anything with the test results back then?

If you’re planning to take a practical test…

§ 61.39 Prerequisites for practical tests.

(a) Except as provided in paragraphs (b), (c), (e), and (f) of this section, to be eligible for a practical test for a certificate or rating issued under this part, an applicant must:

(1) Pass the required knowledge test:

(i) Within the 24-calendar-month period preceding the month the applicant completes the practical test, if a knowledge test is required; or
(ii) Within the 60-calendar month period preceding the month the applicant completes the practical test for those applicants who complete the airline transport pilot certification training program in § 61.156 and pass the knowledge test for an airline transport pilot certificate with a multiengine class rating after July 31, 2014;
Not so clear for a ground instructor certificate.

I think the rules for ground instructor matched CFI back then, and I would suspect the same now.
