Guy that wants to fly

Guest
I am an instrument rated private pilot with an expired Class III medical. I had a pulmonary edema attack several years ago and grounded myself. I did not pursue a Class III afterwards (hence it hasn't been denied or continued), and I am eligible for a Basic Med, as PE is not one of the specific cardiovascular conditions that prohibit it. I have not followed up with a Basic Med.

Is there any reason why I cannot resume flying under Sport Pilot privileges, now that it appears that I can fly real airplanes?

As long as you do "Not know or have reason to know of any medical condition that would make that person unable to operate a light-sport aircraft in a safe manner."

But I don't understand why you don't think that a Cub is not a real airplane.

A Cub is indeed a real airplane. A real slow airplane!
But a real fun airplane, in my limited doors-open time.

I'm not dissing on Cubs. I just don't happen to have access to one or similar.

Thanks.

Certainly you can legally fly under SP rules, but why not get Basic Med so you can use your instrument privileges? There’s no risk in seeking Basic, unlike seeking a 3rd class.

PE is Pulmonary Embolism, not pulmonary edema. Which did you have? Obviously, there are a lot of unanswered questions and they aren't necessarily anyone's business. But your question has already been correctly answered.
