Last week I flew into the DC area, and landed at KFME, which wound up being quite a ways from downtown DC, where I went to do lunch with Mr Metzinger. On my train ride back, I passed right by College Park, and wondered why I couldn't land there....well I know why.....but

Can anyone provide me with info/a link to get "certified" to land at that place? The only thing I found with a google search was something on the FAA website that is outdated.

Also, can anyone else fill me in on what it takes to land at the other DC airports.....KIAD, W32, Reagan, etc.

TSA used to have a web page with instructions, but of course that's either moved or disappeared. I found the application form here:

First, you need to visit the FSDO (I went to Dulles). This requires an appointment. They'll take your certificate, look to see if you've had any violations, and if they like you, they'll sign your form and send you on your way.

Your next stop is DCA for fingerprinting. This doesn't require an appointment, you just go, but you may have to wait in line for a little bit.

Then you go to your DC3 airport (I went to College Park). They'll take your paperwork, have you sit down and watch an outdated video with unintelligible audio which describes procedures that have since changed (assuming you see the same one I saw a couple years ago). They'll process your paperwork and call you back in a few weeks with your pin.

Hopefully the instructions can be dug up, but if not, a call to College Park should do. They have some informal instructions here:

They tell you to go to the Baltimore FSDO in Glen Burnie, but I know I went to the office at IAD. I think it may matter whether you're based at College Park or a "transient". You're presumably filing as a transient.

You don't need anything special to land at Dulles. You need a DC3 pin to land at W32, just like College Park.

To land at DCA, you need to have gone through security screening, and have a law enforcement officer on board the plane, etc. Shouldn't be a problem, you are a Senator, aren't you? No? Well, at least a Governor, I should hope! No? Pity...

NOT for the DC3... CGS, W32, VKX. In those cases, you've got to do some paperwork, get a SIDA background check at DCA, visit the FSDO, and watch some training videos by the airports you fly into.

The Potomac Airfield site has a pretty good description of the process.

For the others (DCA excepted), the procedure is a straight-forward ADIZ process.
