Flying through an ADIZ

Just the other day I launched from the Bahamas VFR and called Nassau approach to activate my IFR flight plan. They said they didn't have one and gave me to Miami Center.

I called Miami and they said they didn't have one either. Asked how I filed and I said 'over the Internet'. They gave me a squak code and eventually cleared me to my destination so I asked if we were 'okay'. She said as long as I had filed one 'somewhere' it'd be okay. I never saw any interceptors and never heard more about it.

Yeah air file is allowed. As the AOPA article points out, you MAY get intercepted on an air file. Apparently you have an honest voice.

Here's a question: Could one call MIA Center from Bimini on the ground and get the discrete code? I'm thinking of a similar method to those flying IFR up here from remote fields that don't have RCO's, and are socked in...

If that's the case, I would bet the call costs less than an intercept, and perhaps even less than a fresh pair of shorts from the intercept... ;)
