I am flying from KSBS to KOGD this friday for a friend's 40th birthday party. I have two potential routes selected and wondered if anyone had advice on which they preferred.
Option 1 - SBS -> VEL (Vernal) -> PVU(Provo) -> OGD. This is pretty much a direct shot over the southern Wastach Mtns. My time over rough terrain is limited. The downside is that I then have to traverse the SLC Bravo northbound. It looks like it gets pretty pinched between SLC and the Mtns. I would hope that they would grant the I-15 transition north so that I would be in the Bravo and might be a bit safer than flying the VERY narrow vfr flyway to the east.
Option 2 - SBS->VEL->36U (Heber) then follow I-84 through Weber Canyon. More time over rough terrain, although over a major freeway/highway. If windy, I imagine that Weber Canyon might get a bit sporty. I wouldn't have to talk to SLC and could easily remain clear of the Bravo. I would have to transit Hill AFB's Delta. How GA friendly is Hill?
