How long can you go without flying before you have to scratch that itch?

I fly every other weekend because that is what my flying budget dictates at this time. This is how it is for me. I fly on Saturday or Sunday and the flying High "think Meth High" last a week. The following week the flying High is wearing off and I need another hit so the following weekend comes around and I'm flying again. I go through this addiction every other weekend.

I love flying, being in the air, looking at planes, the smell of AvGas (Any fuel for that matter), I could sit at the end of a runway and watch planes land until I starved to death. That's probably how I will go. It is hard to go more than about 2 weeks. I am between planes at the moment and so I study, watch videos, etc. That stuff is the methadone of flying.
 
Given a choice I'd fly every day or other day. However, Im in a tough situation where I didn't fly between August and Christmas and probably won't fly again until ~May.
 
I fly 15-20 days a month and usually get 75-115 hours.

On the other days I do not want to fly.
 
"I'm gonna get u high today" is pretty standard in my pre-flight pax briefing.

 
If you think not flying enough is painful, try flying more then you want to. Nothing worse.
 
I start feeling like it's been too long at about 2-3 weeks. I haven't flown in a little over a month, and I'm missing it.

At times, absolutely. Other times it's quite dull, and monotonous. It does turn in to work when its, well, work.

Gusty crosswinds make my day a little bit more fun, and interesting. Gusty crosswinds on an icy runway really get me excited.

Just knowing that I've done it all my life,. I still do it, and will continue to do it until whenever, is enough. It's not an addiction (any longer) just a well appreciated pleasure.

That's pretty much the way it is for me too. I own my airplane and can fly whenever I please. So I can scratch that itch whenever. I'm a consulting engineer and I'm currently working 130 miles from home. I typically fly back and forth to work each week which takes about 0.9 one way as opposed to driving oover two hours. There are two fairly large cities between my home and work location. I have a car at my home and destination airports. This week I wanted to swap the two cars so I could bring the car from my work location home and get it serviced. Friday evening when I was driving through bumper to bumper traffic in the first city, I was really missing my plane. It is just so much less hassle flying home than having to deal with all of the traffic and poor drivers on the road. When I fly home I feel just as fresh when I land as when I departed. When I drive I feel whipped and wrung out. So, while it is no longer like a drug addiction for me to have to fly for fun, I sure do prefer it over driving as my mode of transportation going back and forth to work each week. I still enjoy flying for fun too and enjoy taking my friends up sight seeing.

Are you asking me or my checkbook? It depends, I am always thinking about it, but it is amazing how fast time can pile up between flights if I am not pushing to go fly. Especially at this time of year.
