People want to fly away from their drive way, not drive to the airport to get airborne. They want to fly without being pilots.

And they can -- or will.

Quadcopters and similar drones will grow more robust. In time they will become capable of carrying human cargo. Electric motors and high capacity batteries will allow them to take off with a minimum of noise.

Self driving cars are on the way, and the technology that senses other cars and keeps them on their course can be moved from the 2D world to the 3D world and prevent flying vehicles from colliding with one another and with obstructions. Birds of a feather software can mimic a stream of birds flying in a tight bundle but lets them sweep around obstacles and avoid one another. FAA has already lost control of drones in the first 400 feet of airspace and even higher.

Personal Aerial Vehicles (PAVs) not flying cars are the way of the future.
