So I had this thought. Going fishing with some friends and thought about flying up rather than driving. But I know that for a few hours after all day on a boat in light seas I usually feel like I’m still on a boat. Does this feeling ever mess with anyone’s ability to be 100% on takeoff, cruise, and landing?

I’m VFR only, so wouldn’t think so; And if IFR, I’d guess you just have to be super disciplined with trusting your instruments.

I get pretty whacked out from the sun and breeze. Drink lots. Have a good nap before heading back.

I do it a number of times a summer and haven’t found it to be a big deal.

Nope...go flying to go wakeboarding all the time and have owned a houseboat and familiar with that "land sickness" feeling.

Never been an issue flying home... other than being a bit more tired after a fun day, but those flights are ALWAYS much more relaxing vs fighting traffic with all the four wheelers. I much prefer to look look down upon the peasants stuck on the freeways!

...downside is that you can't enjoy a beer on the boat...legally anyway.

+1. I wakeboard, too. My flights home from the weekend, are only just over an hour, though. If I am not feeling up to it, I will wait until early next morning to return home. Also, have a driving option if needed. Will never force a flight.

If I’m going to do both ,I usually fly early in the morning, then go boating afternoon and early evening.

The only thing about moving back and forth between my boat and my plane is that the boat throttle is backwards from the plane (pull out to go faster).

I do it at least a few times every year, whether it's cruising the pontoon boat or off shore fishing, I do tend to enjoy some beer while fishing, just not if I plan to fly!

You have to know your limits. I have done something similar in the past. Being on a boat really never affects my equilibrium. But I have got off boats tired, dehydrated, and fatigued. In those cases I would stay put.

Kind of like anything else. Self assess before heading to the airport for the flight back. Don’t be afraid to overnight, be rested, hydrated, and ready to fly the next day.
