Hi all, another newbie question...

I'm interested in possibly flying to Detroit on a weekend, from Syracuse. KSYR to KDET. Best route takes me north of Lake Erie, flying in Canadian airspace. Takeoff and landing are in the US.

What kind of requirements, if any, are needed to traverse Canadian airspace without any intention to land there?

Thanks in advance, and loving the forum so far!

The AOPA says you should file an ICAO flight plan. It also says you should enter "Canada overflight" in the remarks. Otherwise nothing special. Google this: aopa alaska overflying canada

I'd be ready to make a landing in Canada, in case anything went south. That means I would do all the attendant BS, which has been gone over in some length previously on this site.

That said, I wouldn't have this problem in the first place, since I have no desire whatsoever to visit Detroit in an airplane or any other type of conveyance.
