Well it does not happen very often, but the high NM desert does suffer
mother nature's wrath. These photos are from the small town of Hatch NM
which is about 40 miles north of me here in Las Cruces. One of the large arroyo's broke through and flooded the town. So far we in Las Cruces have been spared. We have gotten a lot of rain, just not anywhere that much.
The storm that nailed Hatch dumped 6" in about 2 hours.

the western desert, where you get 6" of rain per year.....all in one day.

Was raised in Tularosa, 50s to mid-60s; vacation always involved going to the SGF, MO. One summer, rains in the Tucumcari, NM area put water up to the doors of the Buick Century wagon.

Miss them good ol' days...
