Portland, Ore. - Lightspeed Aviation, a leading manufacturer of premium aviation headsets, announces the release of FlightLink 1.2, an upgrade to its free app that turns iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches into cockpit voice recorders. The new version includes a file compression feature that makes audio files both smaller and compatible with a wider variety of audio management software.
Launched at EAA Airventure 2012, FlightLink captures all communications through the intercom and makes them available for instant playback and permanent archiving. The entire flight can be recorded and saved for future uses, including post-flight debrief and pilot training. Pilots can easily toggle from other apps to access recordings and notes. FlightLink also incorporates a scratchpad for the iPad, allowing pilots to make notes and diagrams with their fingertips.
FlightLink version 1.2 allows users to compress recordings into .M4A files. This file format is approximately three times smaller than the native .CAF file, significantly reducing the space required for storage. M4A files can be stored in the iTunes library and the format is compatible with a wide variety of other audio management software.

FlightLink 1.2 is available at Apple's App Store and is compatible with newer Zulu.2 headsets. Older Zulu.2 headsets can be factory retrofitted for a nominal fee.
