I had a flight to Sedona planned for early this morning but I called it off. The winds were 14 - 20 G 31kts. Normally that wouldn't have stopped me but, Sedona is up on top of a hill and is down in all directions. Down drafts can be mean up on top of USS Sedona, as it is called. My wife and son were going along and With that special cargo I chose on the side of caution. They have a new restaurant on the field by the way and this was to be my first look at that. Another day.

This is a video I took a couple of years ago. The reason I was up so high is they want you to stay above 6500 ft over the town of Sedona. I was. This is a flight I took with my 24 year old grandson.

USS Sedona is a tricky one, especially when its windy.
I avoid landing 21 if at all possible.
Good call on waiting.

Let me know if you do come. Its always nice to meet pilots :-)

Also, the new restaurant is not half bad.

the time I went there it was also 20sG30, 45°xwind, went from power off to full throttle and back a few times to maintain a half decent approach angle, had the pax give me the eyebrow a few times

The winds kicked up here Saturday afternoon. Busy moving the lake beds around with all the dust the winds kicked up. Flew some shearline, ridge and low wave for a while.

Winds were light out of the south in the am, but early afternoon they had swung to the north. Still fairly light on the ground but boundary layer turbulence about 500ft AGL. By 1530 winds were 20G36.

Cold front moved through, winds heavy all night. Just starting to calm down now on Sunday afternoon. Sedona will be a good visit in a couple of days.

If I had a dollar for every flight I've scrubbed intended for KSEZ, I'd be at least a dozen dollars richer right now.

Wind does not mesh with Sedona. Good call.

I drove last time.

I learned to fly in Cottonwood, about 20 minutes drive from Sedona (P52). Much much easier airport to land. I actually had hard time getting crosswind practice there.

When did it open?

I flew in to CV 3-21 on Labor Day and the restaurant was closed. I liked the old restaurant...is the new one in the same location?

I was wondering the same thing, is it located where the old one was? It is brand new and looks nice on there website.

The new restaurant must have opened around October, I've been there in Nov.
It's pretty much in the same location.

Also, was there a memo about avatars?
