I've got a member/guest golf tournament in about a month. The member lives in Plano and thinking about flying myself there. Addison seems to be the closest, but also seems awfully proud of their fuel and parking. Any other choices? Don't want to make my host drive an hour just to save a few $$. Will be on the ground 5 nights (Thurs - Mon).

Where in Plano? TKI (McKinney) might be a better option, depending. On even RBD (Dallas Exec) if your host is near the tollway.

They are about 1 mile north of F69, Dallas Air Park (Is that an option?) or right near Northeast Carrolton.

Air Park Dallas is still open, although it's showing its age. Every time I drive by it I'm surprised to see that it hasn't been turned into an apartment complex.
What kind of plane would you bring?

we're in the dallas area alot, basically, avoid driving in rush hour and most airports aren't really that far. if i was going to plano, i'd maybe land at kdal, the signature is kinda cool and the southwest airlines museum is at the end of the field.

we spend a lot of time at kdto and sphinx. Addison has always been EXTRA expensive.

T31. Aero country. Nice folks but its kinda primitive. Cheap gas for suburban loc.

KDAL instituted a landing fee a few years ago. Not sure what it is.
Air Park should be okay. The runway should be fine for an Archer. I would recommend calling ahead for information.
I like the Aero Country idea. I was there about a year ago and was shocked at the development. There used to be an aerobatic box next to the runway. No more.

The big question for this time of year will be weather. Don't know where you are, but hail is a real threat here. Had some this week. I'm about 45 miles northwest of that location.
For a backup plan, you can PM me. If we're home, you can leave it in my hangar for a few days. Bit of a drive, though!

Is there any public parking at Airpark or Aero Country? There didn't used to be. And I think Aero Country would be a PITA by car. From the Air Park area, the drive to DAL or RBD is about the same, but RBD would be much cheaper.

Thanks for all the input. I’m leaning to a place with a real FBO and a hangar option if hail is in the forecast. I’m on my way home from Asia now so can’t make calls. Leaning to McKinney or KADS if it’s not ridiculous. The choices to the south don’t seem to be any cheaper (KDAL) or will be a bear in traffic (exec). Air park looks sketchy to leave a plane for multiple days even if there’s parking.

Thanks again for all the info

I live in this area,am familiar with all the local airports. I’d stick with TKI or ADS. Another alternative is GYI. That is where I keep my Archer. It’s not a bad drive. There are several FBOs on the field. Hanger space will be tricky anywhere around here so I’d call ahead if that’s important.

they did, landing fee is like 17$ or something so not really crazy

I've got family in Frisco and have been using TKI for years--really friendly folks with no landing fee and pretty average (read: high compared to what I'm used to at my home drome but not shocking) full-serve fuel prices. I think there's a cheaper SS option but I've never used it. They just built a brand-new FBO/terminal building and it's very nice (not that their old one wasn't, but they were/are trying to attract scheduled service). Never asked for hangaring, so don't know what's available there. About 5-10 min to get to the Sam Rayburn Tollway or US 75, so overall maybe a 15-30 min drive to "Plano" depending on where exactly you're going.

In late January spent an overnight at KFWS in Burleson (Spinks, south Ft. Worth). An ice storm was approaching the next day, and there was still hanger space available on short notice @ $100/night. Spinks is a full service airport. The tower and FBO closes at 10:00pm. Close to I-35W. It may be a good choice if the chance of hail is in the forecast and you can't locate a hangar any closer to Plano.

To close the loop. I ended up going to Addison. Millionaire was the cheapest by $5/Night. They also waived the first night and the facility/ramp fee with 15 gallons of really expensive fuel. Super friendly and great service. I was the only piston plane when I pulled in, I said to the ramper that waved me in "not sure if belong here". She said we welcome everyone. She had already pulled my friend's car onto the ramp and loaded my clubs and luggage then pulled the car to the front entry. 10 minute drive to his house.
Rainy, windy and cold on Saturday ( a week ago ). Managed an 81 in the crappy weather, but had my one double on the same hole as my host, which knocked us out of the running for flight winnings.

That would be Hanna and she is wonderful. We have been based at Million Air for close to 17 years and she was there when moved in.

I've been into both ADS and TKI over the years visiting Plano and Allen. The last few times have been to TKI and we had good service.

But as others have said, it really depends upon where you're going once you get on the ground.
