So, I've moved out of country and sold the plane ... very painful, but I just couldn't put her in long-term storage again. It's been 6 months since I've done any flying other than commercial. I've been thinking about getting FSX to at least do something approaching flying.

One thing that always killed me with flight sims was using the mouse to click away at the screen setting things. In the recent past, the only options were expensive and difficult to set peripherals. Outside of the CH yoke/throttle, I never pulled the trigger on anything.

So today, I come across this.

An app that uses a local LAN to connect your iPad to FSX then uses the touch screen on the iPad to set:
* com 1 / com 2 with flip flop
* nav 1 / nav 2 with flip flop
* DME
* Transponder
They also have some options for the ADF.

This looks WAY cool, but I don't see any reviews anywhere. There is a short YouTube video, but it's not in English and really hard to see how the interface works.

The thought that I could have an interactive set of radios for FSX for $10 is pretty cool. Being able to set my iPad up next to the monitor and have touch controls for all the major nav/com functions seems to make FSX much more of a user friendly tool to me.

I'd love to see a real review of this ... if anyone tracks the flight sim boards and can steer me to a review I'd appreciate it. A google search doesn't turn much up, but this seems almost too good to be true for a low cost sim solution.

Hmm well in my experience anything too good to be true most likely is. With that said, if you're not hurtin' for cash, give it a shot!

I would have loved something like this on my sim. Having to try holding my control inputs and finagle the mouse was a pain.

if this works in X-Plane them I am definatley going to buy it..

Let me know if you try it MSFS or X plane..

I posted this link to the Xplane forum and we will see what they think and if anyone has been able to use it..

I don't know if I buy into that when it comes to technology. Here we have a commercial piece of technology with a brilliant touch screen display at our disposal. All it takes is a bit of (not so simple) coding to turn it into an amazing peripheral. Not to say it is easy, but there have been various efforts, this just looks pretty complete. For an "app", it is also pretty expensive which speaks to it not being a high-volume seller and requiring development and support.

Any way, I don't buy the "if it looks too good to be true, it likely is" as applied to Apple apps. I can give you a dozen or so examples of apps that, for just a few dollars, replace what would have previously been very expensive hardware or software (Skype, Dropbox, the Economist, JotNot, Google Translate, Pandora, BizXpensTrkr, Autostitch, Tripit, etc).

If I had MSX on my computer, I'd probably shell out the cash to give this a try. If I get a few good reviews, I'm going to go buy MSX and a joy stick/throttle and give it a try. Having real-ish controls is enough to get me interested again ... if they work.
