I had my first flight review today.
Most of the stuff was what you would expect -- all the usual PTS things. But there were two additions.
1. 55 deg steep turns. Kinda straightforward.
2. Canyon turns. This came from a question I had asked a few days earlier about minimum turn radius.
The technique us to slow to 1.5 Vs0 (about 80 knots on the 172 we were using), drop 10 deg flaps, trim up, then simultaneously cram full throttle, roll to 60 deg, and pull the yoke until the stall warning goes off. Ho Lee F that results in a fast 180. Around 5 sec and I was going in the other direction.
Did it once in each direction. Now the kid wants a demo. Maybe with a lot of altitude.
