It sure doesn't look like the best place for a forced landing.

hard to believe 1500 years ago it was green . . . liars.

hard to believe 1500 years ago it was green . . . liars.

The parts the sailers could see were green at times of the year.

Greenland is a dreadful place
It's a land that's never green
Where there's ice and snow and the whale fishes blow
And daylight's seldom seen, brave boys
And daylight's seldom seen

Like the picks, Iceland is green and Greenland is ice , go figure.

It is a hoax.........

Those pics are of Rapid City last week...:D:confused:

Yes, but it's the most beautiful place in the world when you need gas.

One of my long time friends survived a P-2V ditching 50 miles out of Tuley (sp).

He said he never bit--ed about getting into a poopy suit again.

THULE.

Supposedly, Eric the Red gave it the name in one of the earlier real estate scams.

Nice pix. Brings back memories of IIP flights in that neck of the woods.

This is a great photo...beautiful.

Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the compliments.

You're lucky, usually it's clouded over.
Yep; got lucky 2 years back too and got some pictures of Greenland too, also some ice floes with interesting patterns. It was pretty clear from the UK all the way to Chicago this trip; I'll have more pix...

You are very right about that. I have never seen it without clouds or haze.

I say we play "guess the plane" using Polito's second pic as data.....

My guess is a turbo single throttled way back... Maybe a 182T or a Mooney, altho with that tailwind the Mooney should be going faster.

Any other players???

It's got 45 gallon tanks, no gear indication, I'm going to guess a C210.

Have been to Thule several times while in the military, one of the coldest most desolate airbases I was ever in.

I'm still not convinced the poopy suit buys you much. I know it is a different design now than it was for my old man when he flew the P2V, but there are just so many parts of the body still exposed even wearing it. Maybe it would give you a little extra time in the N Atlantic or the arctic, but either way, you are dying fast if you aren't picked up in a few mins.

Awesome pics, I'm jealous. Very lonely looking, but beautiful

You win. It is a Mooney Ovation at FL 170. No ferry tanks but it has long range wing tanks. Fully loaded with full fuel, three barrels of TKS, spare parts and a bunch of other stuff. After off loading some fuel TAS went to 165kts. Nice cross country machine.

Was the preheater photo taken at Goose Bay?

Yes, in front of Woodward FBO. Very nice facility. Preheat is included in the handling fee. They also do Customs at the same office. I came the day before from Long Island NY enroute to the UK. Very happy with their friendly service. Strongly recommend them.

Wasn't the thinking of the time.
