I watched the movie The Flight of the Phoenix last night for probably the 10th time.
A hero of mine Paul Mantz was killed making the film.

I grew up in Burbank during the 50's. Paul Mantz and Frank Tallman kept aircraft that I drooled over at Lockheed Air Terminal ( Hollywood Burbank Airport)
I soloed out of Grand Central Air Terminal in 1954.

Those were the days.
:)

I saw the movie when I was a kid. At the time, I wondered why they didn't show the Phoenix landing and with all of the crew and passengers disembarking and staggering into the oasis.

Years later I read about the accident and the ending made more sense.

My wife and I watched the end of the movie, right when they were using the shotgun shells to start the engine. Jimmy Stewart was awesome. Great cast!! Most importantly there was no AI.

The original 1965 movie and the 2004 remake are both favorites of mine. Each has its own appeal, though you just can't beat the cast of the original.

I need to get the book the movie was based on. Edit: got it for Kindle last night. Cheap.

"Out of the desert came seven men and a monkey...."

Still remember reading the Reader's Digest Condensed version as a kid. May have gotten the number of survivors wrong....

I love that movie. Haven't seen the remake.

When in Santa Maria, CA visiting . Daughter and I went to the museum at the airport. In there hangs the scale model radio controlled Phoenix used in the movie. flight of the Phoenix.
The building hangar was also used in the movie Rocketeer.
