First flight after purchase and has to land on KY highway

Glad it all worked out for him.

Hmmmmm..

"He called Kentucky State Police for help and asked for the nearest airport".

Hard to believe he called the KSP looking for help...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Worst part he's going to have to explain it to the wife: "Of course it's reliable! And I got a great deal on it....sure we can afford it, no problem, my bonus is due this month. Let's take it for a flight this evening when I get it home."

But the seller SWORE it only burned 8 gallons an hour!

RIGHT!! Mine would put the kibosh the whole thing right there!

Of course, hopefully I would actually know where an airport is and, you know, actually follow emergency procedure... but what do I know? :mad2:

This is the plane I have been trying to convince my wife to let me buy.

Hope I pick better next time

Glad that

a) it turned out well for him an,
b) we made it home with our lady safely when we flew her home

Like the paragraph about him asking the State Police where the next airport is...:D:lol:

The pilot was interviewed. He said he called the FAA and they told him the nearest airport was 20 miles away. He said he had to land between two cars on Rt 555 and the lady in the second car was smart enough to get out of his way.

You're joking right? You are going to pick a different plane because someone landed it off airport, without incident?

Well he would not have had to land it on the highway if there wasn't a problem now would he?

It may have been pilot error, or mechanical failure, but to rule out an airplane for that basis is irrational. You'd have to then rule out every other airplane in the GA fleet that has had an off airport landing, now wouldn't you?

I recall landing at an airport in Georgia just after a Mooney that a couple guys had just purchased. They had to divert in a hurry, something major had gone wrong with the aircraft and they were pretty honked off about it. Don't recall what it was, just that it sounded expensive. They made it to an airport, though.

Maybe he meant that EXACT airplane. I'd still buy that airplane. Looks like it's in great shape!
