hello, i am new to the forum. i made an account to ask a question and it is, how to i find the owner? so basically there is this cessna 172h made in 1966 at my local airport and it has been sitting there for YEARS. i looked up the tail number and sure enough the owners name popped up, but it was a really unique foreign name. so i had no chance on looking him or her up to find out detail about the plane. the plane has been de-registered. pls help yalls:frown3:

Check with the airport administration to see if you can find out who is paying the rent for the tie-down space.

Tyler, you are new here, and welcome! Making the assumption that you are also new to aviation, be aware that any plane sitting unused on the ramp for years may develop very expensive problems. The usual demon is corrosion.

Depending on airport location (Tucson versus Key West, for example) the plane may be junk. Be careful!

Yep, plus whatever issue caused the plane to be parked in the first place. Sometimes it's a medical issue or death of the owner, but often it was a expensive repair that needed to be done to become airworthy, causing the airplane to be neither flyable or salable.

Often time though, the airport manger will know the story. Heck, at my airport, the airport owner lists tie-down queens "for sale" on his newsletter.

What's so special about a '66 172 rampqueen that makes you want to inquire about it so badly?

Just remember, there's no such thing as a free/cheap boat/airplane/insert toy here. There will likely be work to do approaching if not exceeding the actual value of said toy. Just speaking from experience
