We are one week from departure, so this is your last invitation to our annual HOPS Party in the North 40 during Oshkosh Airventure. ("HOPS" stands for "Homebuilt, Owning, Piloting, and Student" -- the old rec.aviation groups.)

As always, it will be held at our campsite in the North 40 aircraft camping area on Wednesday during the week of Airventure. This year, that will be Wednesday, July 31, 2013.

If you're wondering what it's all about, here are some pix from each year's event.

It's laid back, fun, and allows all of us to put faces with the names we've seen on-line for years. Amelia's Landing Hotel provides the food -- "admission" is a six-pack of good beer from your hometown. Because we're from everywhere, this lets us all sample beers from all over the country.

This year, EAA has kindly added a second night airshow, which we will be able to watch from the party -- so bring extra beer! :D

How does one find this party, in a sea of aircraft? It's actually easy, with a bit of planning. Simply stop at the EAA booth at the entrance to the North 40, and either give them our name, or our N-number -- N14EG. They will vector you right in to our site.

Just remember that the EAA camping booth closes around 6 PM, so you should obtain the party location earlier in the day. (Someone usually posts it here as well.)

The party starts after the airshow ends -- we usually have a nice crowd watching the arrivals/departures that begin as soon as they reopen the airspace. Bring a chair, as that's usually what runs out first.

If all else fails, look for the blood red RV-8A in the North 40. It will probably be the only RV out there! :D

    See y'all soon!

Jay, are you going to be having a tall Texas flag or Amelia's Landing flag like last year? That made it easy to find you.

Heck, yeah! Look for the Texas flag, flying over sovereign Texas territory in the North 40, at the top of a 30' pole!

It should look something like this, except with a blood-red RV-8A instead!

Here's one of last year's party. Somehow, the Texas flag got cropped out!

I may be able to make it up Wednesday after work. I may need to scam some underwing camping space though as I'm flying up the Beemer.

Sent you a pm. You should be able to find a place to camp for the night. I hear they don't enforce the rules much, and you will only be there for a night.

Anybody going to HOPS have an iPhone? I'd love to be at the party "virtually" through FaceTime. Let me know.

Okay here is what you're looking for in Row 505 this evening.

And here's a pic taken immediately after we arrived on Sunday. Our advance team had ice cold Sprecher beers for us -- at 10:30 in the morning -- as soon as the prop stopped spinning! :D

    Hope to see y'all tonight!

Now you understand why a slider canopy is the most desired style on an RV.... so you can taxi around with your arm hanging out, holding a beer!

I'll miss the party tonight... but hope to be landing at Osh around noon tomorrow (Thurs).

OK, gang, the hour is upon us. The iPhone number here is 530-575-2553. ANybody that can FaceTime us so we can pass along our regrets at not being there this evening would be most appreciated. If I'm out in the back 40, just let it ring and I'll call back as soon as I get in.

    Thanks,

    Jim & Cyndi

Sorry, Jim, I tried to get someone to do the Face time thing. I don't have any IThings, and those who did said the bandwidth in the N40 was insufficient to run that app.

It would have been cool, having an iPad with your face on it "at" the party.

And here are a few pix from last night's HOPS party...

The group poses in the last light. As always, a slug of folks showed up after dark, and thus aren't pictured. Sorry!

As if on cue, the EAA ice cream truck (a new tradition, I hope) showed up with FREE ice cream for all!

My future daughter-in-law and son cut our other dessert -- a cake in their honor. They're getting married on Monday!

A good time was had by all. (And Grant, you left your phone here. We've got it.)
