FILE Identification

After some system failure -- and during remedy -- I changed from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Now in my Documents or other folders(mainly pictures) I'm seeing DCM File. What is a DCM file? And when I double click it -- as with a JPEG -- instead of getting a preview on the monitor I get a message, "No Preview Available." ???????????????
