Didn’t have this on my aviation bingo card

Not enough information to form a solid opinion, but it seems it's for internal flights within Europe. Not sure that can be classed as a "US job". Seems pretty normal to me to have local pilots doing that flying; depending on the routings it might have been considered a bit of a stretch of fifth-freedom rights.

I don't know how it works the other way. Do foreign freight carriers like DHL fly routes internal to the US using non-US crews?

These were jobs that until last year were flown by FedEx pilots based in Cologne, Germany and flying from the European FedEx hub in Paris. They were all intra-Europe (and the UK and Israel)

Heard this is only the foreign crews that didn’t fly into or out of the US

Small percentage

Still, not cool

Funny they enjoy being US based companies, I’d say if they want to be EU based let the board renounce their citizenship and move base to the EU and enjoy their taxes

These were American pilots flying on a temporary basis in Europe. They would only fly European routes (plus UK and Israel), but after their 5 years were up in Europe, they would have to rotate back to the US and fly there.

Is there a European equivalent of the Jones Act?

Last sentence of the article: “U.S. jobs should not be outsourced in the name of corporate cost-cutting.”

Then put your money where your mouth is. FedEx would be less competitive because they are too expensive when I go to my local shipping store and am able to chose between cost and delivery dates from multiple carriers. I save a few bucks. Free market, good or bad.

More important question: are US pilots that only fly European routes allowed to grow beards? :)

Like Sluggo said, these are US pilots so it hurts the FedEx pilot group unfortunately because there is less flying.
UPS runs basically the same network inEurope but we do a crossing to get there then spend the next 10 or so days flying around Europe before we do a crossing home.
Fortunately we have it in our contract that this flying will be done by UPS pilots.
Unfortunately FedEx doesn’t have similar language.
