BZ, Fed Ex. Well done. And prayers for this little 7-year old.

Wanda said the family started calling every organization they could think of that helps transport people for medical reasons, including Angel Flight, but they weren’t able to find anybody who would fly the little girl in her serious medical condition from Houston to Arkansas.

Tiffany Gilliam, a close friend of Savannah’s, kept updating Andrea Martin, Green Forest Elem-entary principal, with what was going on with Jada. Andrea called someone she knew at FedEx to see if they could help. She called the right person when she called Kelly Madewell, who is flight operations specialist at FedEx Freight in Harrison.

“This all took place on Thursday,” Wanda said. “The next thing we knew, Savannah called us from Houston, and she was crying and crying. She said they had called her to tell her that FedEx had a flight coming to pick her and Jada up and bring them home.”

Ken Reeves, vice-president and general counsel of FedEx Freight, told the Daily Times that Madewell “was the one who put this whole thing together, and Doug Duncan in Memphis, (president and CEO of FedEx Freight Corp. in Memphis), and Pat Reed here in Harrison, (executive vice-president and CEO of FedEx Freight), both approved for FedEx Freight in Harrison to pay for it.”

Reeves said the flight will cost the company “a little over $11,000.”

“One thing that impresses me about this company is that the company has a heart,” Reeves said. “Our company does a lot of things like this. It’s been recognized as one of the most admired companies in the world, and this is why.”

Wait for it...some ID10T at the FAA or the TSA will say that FedEx is violating their operator certificate or their "All Cargo Security Program" by doing this. No good deed goes unpunished.

Fedex didn't fly the flight. They actually just paid out of pocket for an air ambulance company to do it. Cost them $11,000 -- they made a family very happy -- and they are getting way more than $11,000 in marketing out of this.

Either way...good on them! They probably are getting lots more than $11,000 of free "advertising" and goodwill

Im with ya on that had they put her in the jumpseat of an MD-11F or something.FedEx does have a P91 dept.....several challenger lears and Gulfstreams. Either way..good for them and more importantly prayers to the little girl and the family.

I don't care if they get $11,000. worth of advertising and I don't thing they do either. I think they are doing it because it is the right thing to do. You don't always have to look at what they are getting out of it.

That Bob's a smart one, I don't care about the way the rest of you always talk ugly about him.

Good for FedEx.

Less good for Angel Flight. Do they have lots of people needing this kind of transportation as badly as this girl? Sad...

AF missions only handle ambulatory patients. It's my understanding that this girl flew on a medical transport (air ambulance) and was probably lying on a gurney with a nurse or EMT along to help. None of that's gonna work in a Cherokee.

Edit: just read the linked article. The poor girl was on a ventilator as well as being strapped to a gurney. And BZ to Fedex. Makes me want to ship something.

There are a couple of individual people who sometimes get referred through Angel Flight who have stretchers in their planes and can do those flights, but as Lance said, AF missions deal with ambulatory flights.

FedEx is a good company. There're a number of reasons why I always use them. This is just another one, and a good one, regardless of whether or not they get $11,000 in marketing out of it.

Hey, I rarely say hurtful things about Bob! Just sometimes when he's really getting on my nerves...

A private company had to come to the rescue, while thousands of government planes sit on a tarmac or they are burning millions of pounds of fuel on training flights. Perhaps some of that "stimulus" money could go to FedEx to help them help Americans.

It is too bad it is easier to call FedEx than it is to call an air force base. That even if you could just call an air force base, they would not be allowed to just go and help.

When the fires were burning around San Diego a few years back, several military bases wanted to help, but the civilian fire departments raised hell about jurisdiction issues, so they were not allowed to help at all. Meanwhile, the civilian fire departments were letting the fires burn down whole neighborhoods, because they could not agree who's jurisdiction the neighborhoods were in. They have since, solved that problem for future fires, they claim.

Now that I think about it, it is not the air force's fault they can not help with such things. If they did, and received publicity for it, all the local government agencies would be screaming foul.

They should send some of that stimulus money to FedEx. How about eleven thousand dollars worth of jet-A?

John
