FBH needs a shave....

Very cool, Ben. Love the sound of your engine. But I have to ask....the knee pads? For preflight prayer??!

Quite the Beast!

You really do operate on a slightly different plane than the rest of us, yep.

I am in construction so knee pads are needed.... The main reason I wear them all the time is my left ACL is completely torn and I don't want any doctor cutting on me.. It has been that way for 25 years so I can adjust my walking style.....

They give me a huge knee brace to wear, but I look like a cripple with it on and the pads do give alot of support, so I just deal with the millions of jokes thrown my way...

Neat, it sure got off quicker when it was -20°.

Agreed,,,, the day you rode in it the DA was 4700 msl...

This guy was 50 lbs heavier, I had just stuffed the tanks full of 66 gallons the day before he called wanting to do an article on it.. AND... the DA on that take off was 7700 msl.... It took foreeverrrrrrrrrrr to get in the air....:(

Sounds like a good solution, then. Amazing airplane. What do you think the TBO will be considering how easy you're able to run it?

Are we discounting the smoked pistons already?;) seriously, I'd give the bottom end 5000 hrs or better since it barely uses the 400hp capability of a bottom end that can stand several races, and sometimes complete seasons of absorbing twice that.

Yeah.... The piston was self induced by seeing if I could get the EGT's to 1775f...... It ran over 300 hours running 1725f EGT numbers....

My guess Henning is right on with the bottom end prediction of 5000 + hours...

What was your interest in getting that EGT? Also, curious about the heat output in winter?

Hey... It's an experimental... I explore the envelope for best power... and in that case, least fuel burn..... I have since installed a Air / Fuel Ratio meter... The piston burned at about 15.8 A/F @ wide open throttle... I ain't gonna do that again..:no:...

That's awesome. I never gave your avatar much thought.

Now I admire it.

Great article Ben. Your bird looks great, wouldn't mind taking a ride sometime...

Thanks Mark....
Not only do I owe ya a few cases of beer, now you get a ride in "beast"......;)

That looks like way too much fun, Ben.

Please note Ben's very nice stabilized approach too. That it was a curving one, doesn't matter. ;)

You cheated by knowing you'd need a bit of power to make that mark though. ;) ;) ;)

I know you can do that without starting turn that far out. And we haven't even met. :) :) :)
