One of my buddies at Fox is on the development of this show.

It just started, I loved the movie. Wondering if the series will be any good. My buddy says it's just twisted enough to keep entertained.

We'll see. FX bought 10 episodes.

Ok so far. It's my understanding that the 10 episodes will be a single arc -- sort of like a 10 hour movie.

They did a great job with it. The main character gets annoying quickly, but I know that's the point. BBT's character is great. Classic, going to the shop..."I just wanted to see what you look like."

Heh. That character sure gets a lot of pleasure out of jacking with people.

They seem to have kept the flavor of the movie. My only criticism is that they are being a bit too derivative, but that was the intention so ok.

My friend said the episodes go lighter, then a bit darker back and forth, with some character development along the way. Over all I thought it was well done. Not rushing too much and giving some openings for improv bits.

The devil in the car telling the trooper to go home to his daughter. About the best scene in ages.

I couldn't imagine how they could fashion it after the movie and still make it wince-free. They did better than that.

For example, initially it looked like the roles of the male and female cops would be reversed, then not, then, well....

Really entertaining, totally hooked

Caught Forrest Gump again the other day. It's amazing how much Colin looks like his old man.

I'm hooked. I will have to watch the movie over to refresh though. Good stuff.

Did they move it forward in time, or keep it in the 80s? Just curious. No FX here.

I thinks it's around mid to late 90s now. He used a cell phone in one scene.

Is the film Fargo set in the 80s? I thought it was present day, but I haven't seen it years. I should say present day in the late 90s when it came out.

The opening said the events depicted took place in 2006.

Being FROM Fargo, I'm always interested in how they depict things (even though the show is set in a town a fair distance away). One real jarring thing was how the characters described low temperatures: "It's going to get down to negative 15 degrees tonight." Not the way folks up there describe it...they'd say, "minus 15 degrees" or "fifteen below."

Ron, interested in what you think of the production and characters? Do you think they are too typeset? I know a lot of the movie was typecast for the upper midwest kind of 'doncha know, yaah you bet'.

Haven't lived there for 35 years. But when the "Fargo" movie came out, I was rolling the aisle, laughing. Yes, it was exaggerated, but the accents, attitudes, and environments did evoke the region. The prostitutes describing Steve Buscimi as "Funny-Looking," the sherriff loading up at the smorgasbord, the guys wearing the snorkel-type parkas, all really struck a nerve with me.

The regionalism doesn't seem as strong in the TV series. And I see the producers think that a car fishtailing on an icy street makes the same squealing sound as a Corvette peeling out on in California.

It seemed pretty predictable (oh, yeah, the washer repairs aren't going to work) until Martin Freeman whipped out the hammer. Did get interesting at that point.

Slowed down some. Still ok, but they need to pick it up a bit.
