Fantasy of Flight closing

It is (was?) indeed an incredible place!
I've only heard good things about Mr. Weeks. Didn't get to meet him, but did get to see him fly what I think was a replica Vin Fiz.

Here's wishing Fantasy of Flight the very best for the future!

Met Kermit at OSH this year, had him autograph 2 books I bought for my kids who were with me. Very nice, definitely engaged my kids in conversation and was a pleasure to get to meet.

Sad to see, that was one of bucket list things to see!

Maybe Paul Allen will step in and buy the whole thing...

It would be pocket change to him...

I flew with the great Waldo (Stearman) last spring. Wonder if he will relocate his Stearman and Waco!!

Been there done that. Good for a half day. Enjoyed the tour of the restoration the most.

He is going back to restoration of aircraft. He plans to reopen as a museum again without the amusement atmosphere. At least he is staying open through sun n fun.

I guess it depends on what "reduced capacity" ends up looking like. There's an incredible collection of aircraft in the big hangers. Actually seeing the aircraft fly on the daily schedule was a treat. If it ends up being just the restoration hanger open then there won't be much to see.

When I talked to him in 2007 he wasn't about collecting and restoring aircraft any longer. He wanted to provide a visual and physical experience to the customer to make them feel like they are actually flying. As he said, kind of a continuation of the B-17 display where the smell, sound and even temperature was set to give the audience a feeling of being there. Now, it seems like he just wants to go back to being a restoration facility. They have so many aircraft there, possibly with having the public around they can't keep up with the maintenance and need to get back to their grass roots???

Very sad, but hopefully when they reopen it will be even better.

They have had record days since they announced they were closing.
