Fantasy Football

We had our live draft Tuesday night. I'm in a league with some guys I went to high school with. Back then, the 'commissioner' would by a newspaper on the way to school on Monday morning and use the box scores to figure up thefantasy scores which would let everyone know if their game that week was depending on Monday Night Football. Made things a little more interesting.

Since we've graduated and moved in different directions, we're using Yahoo Fantasy Football..

Just a long way of saying "Yes" to your question. :)

We're in a keeper league. I fire saled last year and kept no one. This year I have the #1 overall, #3 overall, and another seven picks before the end of round 5. (14 team league)

A lot of the premier names are on other rosters already, but two teams dropped out, so there's some top tier players available. (E. James, S. Smith, R. Brown, A. Gates...) Draft starts tomorrow. We also do individual defensive players so I may just cause some trouble in the 5th round by taking 4 defensive players....

Oh, I love this time of year.

I did it one year. I am in a baseball fantasy league with a bunch of guys who write for Baseball Prospectus, and I do it just to watch the other guys shell each other all year long.

I did a fantasy football year with them last year and it was downright ugly. One of the guys is the lead author of Football Outsiders and Football Prospectus. I wasn't shelled, they had D-Day on my roster and left me with nothing but gruel and few third string o-linement. U G L Y.

So, no more for me!

Cheers,

-Andrew

Never understood the attraction.

Makes the games more interesting, and the yelling at the TV more fun.

"Don't throw it to him, you idiot, throw it to the other side! What?!?! Don't take him out now, you're on the goal line, and I need the points!"

Plus, I can always call up my buddies and laugh when their guy throws a pick, or fumbles the ball.

Oh yeah, and money is involved. :D

I am involved in two leagues - one is a dynasty league and the other is just a normal league. Both are pay leagues, and its a lot of fun.

OK, but I bet on the real games :D

So do we, indirectly. More about what happens IN the game as opposed to who wins.

I used to think it was kind of dumb.
... Now I am an two leagues (NFL)!

It's fun, but it sure does skew your view of the game. If you have a guy on your roster who happens to be playing against your real favorite team, you want him to do well, but not to win.

We're allowed two Franchise players each year, so we have somewhat of a carry-over, but we everyone still have to rebuild the mass of their team each year. So far it has worked out well... We don't have any $$ on it since we all live so far apart, but at one time we did have an actual trophy that would get mailed to the winner to keep until the following year.

I came away with E. James as my 'big star'.. With T. Green, C. Chambers, and C. Cooley filling out the meat of the team. This was one of the few seasons where there really wasn't a "He will definitely be the #1 pick" type of deal. Should be an interesting season. The trick will be to find those sleepers early and pick them up off waivers..

Personally, I really don't like any professional sports. At least with fantasy football, I at least have a false sense of being involved in the game. :)

I save the $$ for college... I mean.... uhhh... college BOOKS.. yeah.. that's it.. textbooks.. ;)

Holy moley! Have you considered some of the used textbooks sites?

Amazon.com has a used textbooks section:

http://www.amazon.com/b/103-8892151-7230238?ie=UTF8&node=465600

There's also these, among others. Google will give you a lot if you search on "used college textbooks"

Anybody see where the NFL went to court to try and stop fantasy football?

I saw that mentioned on CNBC last week. Or maybe it was about baseball. I forget. I think the analysis was that player names plus stats is pretty much fair game, because it's factual information. Something like that.

Regarding fantasy leagues, gawd no! A very annoying hall-mate in the college dorm would do that, back when it was on paper. Talk about obsessed! Jeez, he would never shut the heck up about it. Turned us off but good.
