On Saturday I attended the Fairhope Festival of Flight

One of the acts had a mishap. Not sure of the pilot's condition now, but he was able to exit the aircraft on his own.

Looks like fun (aside from the "crash"). I'm still reading the stuff, but what is the backing for this airshow?

If you mean sponsors there is a list on the link for the airshow. In it's second year, it has a large draw from the local community. There's a good mix of civilian and military static displays for a locally produced event. Teledyne Continental runs a maintenance facility on the field, separate from the engine factory in Mobile.

Something you won't see at any other airshow is the Dogwood Trail maidens on the ramp (see attached).
