FAA yanks pilot's licenses after L29 crash

I asked about that on AOPA. It seems his logbook endorsement of the accident pilot may have been bogus.

If that's true, it sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Jeez... I guess I need to apply to become manager of the Tehachapi airport:

During the flyover, one Delfin fell out of formation and slammed into Old Town Road, killing David Zweigle, 42, the city's airport director, and Robert Chamberlain, 63, of Morrison, Colo., a retired airline pilot and former Air Force test pilot. The aircraft, which was owned and flown by Zweigle, passed over a park and missed several houses before impact.

Seriously, how the heck does an airport manager afford to own and fly an L-29?

You buy an L-29 for less than a 20 year old 182. If you're the airport manager, you've probably got a buddy who is an A&P and have a connection on parts which for these planes aren't that much $$$ either. Fuel is probably the major expense, and he probably buys it at cost. The old east block jets are actually pretty cheap.
