I would like to know if there is an online study group for the FAA Airman Knowledge Test.

I have 3 student pilots that need help studying they keep getting around a 70 on practice test and I think an online meet up 1 to 2 times a week would help them.

They have access to Stportys learn to fly and their FAA practice test. Any other suggestions?

Wish there was something like this around when I took my PAR exam.

Pilot Institute is probably the best IMO (scored 95%)- the price is well worth it as the content is current and very thorough!

Private Pilot Written Questions - boring but helpful YouTube Videos

Their CFI should arrange a study group with proper materials and process.

I mean there are already 3 of them, seems a clear course of action

You have a problem. If these 3 students are struggling for low 70s, they are not going to be prepared for the practical test when the DPE is required to ask them questions on the knowledge codes found deficient in the written test and a score of low 70s will have a lot of codes.

Raise the bar and make these student produce you mid 80 scores for the online tests before you endorse for the written.

Oh the goal is 90s on the practice test before they take it.

The problem is most of it is just taking the practice test over and over. They do great in person but it’s the test taking that it would be nice to talk someone as they study that’s not $70 and hour. Which is the cost for their flight instructor.

Another thing I did was purchased the Airman Knowledge Testing Supplement. Studied that thing religiously.

I became familiar with every single page especially the legends. There were several questions that I was 100% sure of because of consulting the legends. For example, what is this symbol - VOR, VORTAC, etc. I know them now but back then the legend was the answer.

Maybe the most important thing was simulating the test environment. Only allowed items, timed tests, and obviously the Airman Knowledge Testing Supplement.

I actually finished exam with like 20 minutes to spare and allowed me to go back and double check questions. Just taking the test and saying ok it’s over is not realistic.

Thank you this is exactly the type of information I am looking for. I will look the book up and order it for them.

Here's a free study guide from Gold Seal. Kind of like Cliff's Notes. Free download, no sign-up required.

Regarding the guys that can't seem to score over 70%, how exactly are they studying? Or, are they really studying at all? The Knowledge Test is not that difficult if they'll simply learn the material.

All of the Testing Supplements are being retired. The first will be for the IRA and UAG (remote pilot) tests in October. All of the figures are moving to onscreen display. This means test takers will begin seeing new figures that they've never seen before in questions. It's explained in this short article:

Correct but every place to “learn” the material is different. They did Sportys because it was free then took an in person class (Jeppesen book) and then their CFI suggested another book. While the information was similar it is different enough to still lead to 70% on the practice test. when they look at what topics need to study it’s well all of them. So now they don’t know which resource to use or where to study.

Well, I think you expressed the answer right there. Students need to find the resource that will completely prepare them for good, strong test scores. There are online ground schools out there that work very well. Students should take free test drives to find the one that works the best for them.

So, no way to hold the FAA accountable for all the mistakes they make. Great.
