FAA must be embarrassed by their stupidity

I'd say rather than embarrassed, Huerta is feeling like he got exactly what he wanted.

I suspect other agencies right now are trying to get their hands on the FAA's playbook.

The thing I can't figure out is this: If the President didn't want the authority to direct the sequestration cuts intelligently, why didn't he direct Huerta not to ask Congress for that authority?

This was a nearly perfect example of government bureaucrats using the system to restore funding and avoid cuts. It is textbook as to why/how government programs will not become more efficient (even if they can be).

Other agency heads are watching closely.

Would like to see some information to the contrary.... it is true that the concept of sequestration was the Administrations idea (from Jack Lew I believe) BUT the details were worked out jointly between Lew and the Congressional parties. Seems to me to be a compromise that neither side liked, but did agree to.

If anybody believes the politically appointed head of an agency is doing something the person who appointed him doesn't want done, I have a large bridge in Brooklyn is will sell to you for a reasonable price.

Heads of Agencies serve at the pleasure of the president and if said president wasn't pleased, the said head of said agency would be removed.

When the original measure was passed the intent was to make it so painful the legislature and executive folks would be forced to work out an acceptable compromise. IOW the expectation at the time was that the specific consequences of sequestration weren't all that important because it would never actually go into effect. How's that working for everybody now?

Apparently one congressman blasted them for maintaining their own "air force" fleet of planes at a cost approaching the value of the ATC cuts.

... as his fleet of expensive staffers booked his next taxpayer-funded flight.

How else would those 4 planes be able to land. It would just be chaos out there.
