The NTSB databases go back to the sixties although many of the older reports have very limited information on them. If you are specifically researching a particular N number, you can try pulling the CD rom file.

The FAA doesn't keep an accident database other than there biweekly incident reports.

Wouldn't that just give me the repair 337s? that it required to repair the aircraft. not the where and who of accident?

I have the CD rom for several aircraft and they do not show accident data.

Tom, if you PM me the tail number of the plane, I might could help you. I've spent many a lonely night searching through the NTSB database, and I have found almost everything I've looked for.

Thank you Nick, but it isn't that important.

My aircraft has 3 accidents in its history, I wanted the details and can't find the reports. They are old enough that may only be on paper.

My plane as in several accidents before I got it. Some of them aren't reflected in any official record. I know that my step has a weld in it (sign of a gear up) and I can find a couple of engine replacements which probably correspond to that incident, but it wasn't until I ran into a mechanic who said "I know that airplane" that I got the real story as to what happened. It wasn't quite a gear up. When the step started to drag he made a timely go around.
