FAA class 3 medical denied migraines

my class 3 medical was denied due to “ history of migraines and use of the disqualifying medicine nortriptylene”. If I stop the medication now and resubmit my application what are my chances of getting it approved? Is it okay to continue training? My neurologist submitted a letter to the doctor saying migraines were stable and hadn’t had one in 2 months. Should I get another letter from the doctor? What should it say?

Goes back to the age old PoA advice, “ don’t sit for a medical that you are 100% certain you are going to pass!!!”

Nortriptyline is an antidepressant. Yikes. Cant fly while on that and FAA might assume "depression" until proved otherwise.

2 months isn't long for migraine free either, especially if they were ocular or classic (with aura). You'll need to know your exact history and since you've already been denied then the horse has left the barn so too late to shut the door, might as well find out all you can and reapply later. One of the AMEs on this board might be along soon and tell you how long migraine free is long enough, and what to expect re: the AD.

Link to how to do the consult visit with the AME instead of the type of visit that resulted in this denial - http://tinyurl.com/ameconsult.

Link to one of the premier AMEs on this board for dealing with the subject of anti-depressants - http://aeromedicaldoc.com. You can do initial contact through Dr. Chien’s web form there. He may recommend a different expert for the migraine aspect.

When I have questions about the aeromedical process I call the Regional Flight Surgeon’s office and ask them. They’ve always been helpful.
